The Rise of ELF Electromagnetic Attack Weapons and the Necessity of the Development of Corresponding ELF Defense Systems by Wim Vegt Summary

The original idea that electromagnetic waves propagate in every direction with the same universal constant, the speed of light, corresponds with Maxwell's Theory of Electrodynamics in 1865. With the introduction of the Laser it became clear that it is also possible to emit a beam of light in one single direction while the speed of light in the directions perpendicular to the direction of propagation equals zero. In general, the laser frequencies are so high that the Laser radiation will not be harmful for the human brains and organs. Recent developments however demonstrate that it is very likely that Eastern countries like China and Russia are already doing experiments with Extreme Low Frequency (ELF) Masers. The fundamental principle on which Lasers and Masers are operating is the Phenomenon of Resonance. The fundamental Condition for Resonance is that the dimensions of the cavity are at least the dimension of the wave length. The wavelength of a frequency of 2.000 [Hz] equals 150 [km]. This means that to build an ELF Maser for a radio frequency of 2.000 [Hz] a resonance cavity is needed with the dimensions of at least 150 [km] which is about five times the size of New York.

War, Aggression and Self-Defence by Yoram Dinstein Summary

Yoram Dinstein's seminal textbook is an essential guide to the legal issues of war and peace, armed attack, self-defence and enforcement measures taken under the aegis of the Security Council. This fourth edition incorporates new material on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, response to armed attacks by terrorists, recent resolutions adopted by the Security Council, and the latest pronouncements of the International Court of Justice. In addition, several new sections consider consent by States to the use of force (as expressed either ad hoc or by treaty); an armed attack by non-State actors; the various phases in the Gulf War up to the occupation of Iraq in 2003 and beyond; and immunities from jurisdiction. With many segments being rewritten to reflect recent State practice, this book remains a comprehensive and highly readable introduction to the legal issues surrounding war and self-defence. An Angel of Obedience by John Giessmann Summary

Jackson Carter just wants a normal life. Sure, at thirteen, he's just retired from an illustrious career as a classical musician and entered Harvard as a freshman mathematics major. And yeah, he's responsible for raising his two younger brothers while mom is off in Brazil or Thailand spending every last dime they have. But he'd still just like a couple of friends to hang out with and maybe even a girlfriend. But a normal life just isn't Jackson's destiny. He has become obsessed with patterns: the mathematical properties found in the formation of clouds, the outline of a mustard stain on a picnic table, the intricate working of light and dark found in a curtain at the Sydney Opera House. When his mathematics instructor shows him a fractal image, Jackson becomes so engrossed that he cannot look away. Then someone hammers a pre-Roman curse to his front door summoning an angry demon, and his littlest brother starts receiving messages from Eddie Cochran, the dead Rockabilly singer. And, of course, there are the corporate paramilitary units stalking the parking lots of Harvard, his other brother's hysterical blindness, and a demented ex-weatherman from Little Rock, Arkansas who thinks Jackson is an evil genius who needs a good ass-kicking. And, oh yeah, everyone seems to think Jackson may be the anti-Christ. So much for a normal life. An Angel of Obedience is the sometimes funny, sometimes scary, always exciting tale of Jackson Carter, boy genius, over-burdened older brother, and potential destroyer of the known universe. It's a story that just goes to prove that when time and space are on the brink of extinction, that's when you need your friends and family the most.

Killing and Saving

Killing and Saving by John P. Reeder Summary

Contrary to the views of Alasdair MacIntyre and others who assert that modern Western morality is in disarray, torn by incommensurable moral views, John Reeder believes that there is much agreement about taking and saving lives. Many people might, in fact, agree on the various circumstances in which the death of a person constitutes a violation of the right to life, or that people have a right to our help, especially a right to life-saving aid. In Killing and Saving, Reeder analyzes five sorts of situations in which we are morally permitted or even obligated to take human life: e.g., when we repel an attacker who voluntarily "forfeits" the right to life; when we are confronted with "involuntary pursuit" or "material aggression"; when someone "yields" the right to life; when all will die if nothing is done, but some can be saved if others are killed; and when there is a "double effect" in which we take life as a foreseen but unintended consequence of attempt to achieve a greater good. Reeder argues that these (and closely related) categories account for many of our convictions ranging from abortion to infanticide, to starvation, to war. He also examines the concept of absolute or exceptionless right to life. Reeder draws on a number of moral views, from theological ethics to Enlightenment notions of natural rights or respect for rational creatures. He does not attempt to argue for a foundation for the right not to be killed and the right to be saved. Rather, he focuses on the content of the convictions themselves and argues that where disagreements remain, such as the case of abortion, they can be accounted for by the way the rights in question are explained and justified.
