MOMumental by Jennifer Grant Summary

Celebrating the joyous art of being a mother, MOMumental offers an inspiring, honest, and infectiously humorous look at the perils and pleasures of raising a family in the real world. Once a devout believer in the myth of the perfect mother, author Jennifer Grant now has a more realistic yet still upbeat view of parenting and families. Instead of focusing on creating a conflict-free home, raising picture-perfect kids, and being an ideal mother, Grant offers a wiser and more down-to-earth way to love your children that makes room for mistakes and imperfections. She says, "I share stories about family life and how I've come to appreciate the mess of it. I am grateful for my own happy, idiosyncratic, and imperfect family." MOMumental is one mother's account of the unpredictable, creative, sometimes hilarious, and always rewarding process of raising a family. It's filled with funny and poignant stories from her everyday life-a life that mothers everywhere can identify with. MOMumental is a book about parenting, family, and intentional relationships for readers who normally avoid such fare like an overzealous street evangelist. (Raises hand.) Its wit and wisdom completely enraptured me. A delightful and surprising gift to us all. Cathleen Falsani award-winning journalist and author

What if God wants you to wait? Most of us know what it’s like to wait for God to change our circumstances. But, whether we’re waiting for physical healing, emotional breakthrough, or better relationships, waiting is something we usually try to avoid. Why? Because waiting is painful and hard. The truth is, it’s also inevitable. She offers a vibrant retelling of the biblical account of the Bleeding Woman that parallels her story—and yours, too. Let Ann help you see the promise that is hidden in the ache of waiting and the hope of what God can—and will—do as you wait on him.

Work. Pump. Repeat. by Jessica Shortall Summary

The practical, relatable, and humorous guide to surviving the difficult, awkward, and rewarding job of being a breastfeeding, working mom. Meet the frenemy of every working, breastfeeding mother: the breast pump. Many women are beyond “breast is best” and on to figuring out how to make milk while returning to demanding jobs. Work. Pump. Repeat. is the first book to give women what they need to know beyond the noise of the “Mommy Wars” and judgment on breastfeeding choices. Jessica Shortall shares the nitty-gritty basics of surviving the working world as a breastfeeding mom, offering a road map for negotiating the pumping schedule with colleagues, navigating business travel, and problem-solving when forced to pump in less-than-desirable locales. Drawing on the war stories, hacks, and humor of working moms, and on her own stories from her demanding job and travel in developing countries, she gives women moral support for dealing with the stress and guilt that come with juggling working and breastfeeding. As she tells the reader in her witty, inspiring manifesto, “Your worth as a mother is not measured in ounces.” 2015 Axiom Business Book Award Winner (Silver) in the category of Women/Minorities

The Gospel According to Mamma is a collection of twenty-one extraordinary lessons the author learned from her charming and captivating mamma. These “mamma teachings” are packed with sassy inspiration, practical insights and real-life anecdotes. Leaving Georgia with her mamma late one September night when her daddy was en route to end their lives marked the beginning of a lifetime of instruction. PRAISE FOR THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MAMMA “Annette’s first book is a winner! She picked the perfect subject – her irrepressibly joyous mother, who has given her daughter important and inspiring words of wisdom to cherish. If you yearn to help your daughter navigate life experiences with assurance and spunk, give her The Gospel According to Mamma.” —Mary Jo Beebe, coauthor of Jesus’ Healings and New Testament Healings “If only there were more mothers like Annette Bridges’ mamma: always encouraging, always believing the best of her children, a ‘steel magnolia’ whose motherly advice is based on the Bible and common sense. Remembering events in her own past, Annette gives us 21 valuable life lessons based on the wisdom of her indefatigable Southern mamma.”–Renee Corley, former editor at UPI’s religionandspirituality.com “Once you get to the end of reading about Mamma and her wonderful lessons, you will walk away a little wiser. Annette puts life in perspective. She lives a fulfilling life, just as her Mamma taught her. Whether to find your faith, believe in your self or master the ability to see the good in others, Mamma lessons help you find the positive. There is much to learn from these strong and inspiring women.” —SingleMom.com “A look into the heart and soul of Annette Bridges. It could be anyone’s story, but it couldn’t be told any better.” —Bob Belcher, Managing Editor, Corsicana Daily Sun “For anyone who has ever had a mother (and you know who you are), synthesizing that experience can leave many of us speechless. It is ‘good news’ that Annette Bridges is at no loss for words. She liberally shares her mom’s gospel in deep drafts of down-to-earth good sense and faith, liberally laced with Southern humor.” —Susan J. Cobb, author of Virgin Territory: How I Found My Inner Guadalupe “Irresistibly heartfelt. Perfect for all mothers and daughters, past, present and future!” —Jennifer Bridges, author’s daughter and Ph.D. student “I have been hearing stories about Nellie, Annette’s Mamma for the last 25 years. Annette makes you feel like you are sitting down with her in her ranch house or on that beach she talks about going to while she shares her Mamma with you from her perspective, with the insights she has gained over her lifetime. I hope you enjoy getting to know Nellie and Annette, 2 Georgia peaches transplanted to Texas. I love the way Annette brings the Bible into her daily life and shares it with us so that we can feel the love of God that is so present today in her life and illustrates how the Bible can show us how to go in ours. Way to go Girlfriend… you finally did it! You wrote a book and it’s a winner! I can’t wait to share this with my family and friends!” —Kathy Glover, friend to both Annette and her mamma

My Journeys to the Spirit World by Paul J. Mcallister Summary

How does it happen? How does someone raised Roman Catholic find himself journeying to the spirit world, interacting with spirit guides, and performing soul retrievals? This book is Paul J. McAllister's answer to that question. What makes the book interesting is that, unlike many how-to shamanic books, My Journeys To The Spirit World focuses on the author's personal journeying experiences. Between June 2011 and June 2013 the author made approximately 200 journeys to the spirit world; journaling each visit immediately after it occurred. This book presents the thirty plus most memorable journeys. It includes details of his interactions with power animals and spirit guides, the intentions for each journey, and the beneficial results of contacting the spirit world. In Chapter One the author describes initial spirit contacts he had while vacationing in Hawaii in 2011. Back on the mainland two weeks later, Paul was awakened from a sound sleep by Hawaiian spirits and given the opportunity to follow a new path. He accepted their invitation. In Chapter Two, the author briefly describes his personal spiritual quest. Following Catholicism into adulthood, the author's life took a turn into alternative spiritual ideas including years spent studying Rosicrucianism, Buddhism, Transcendental Meditation, the Order of the Golden Dawn, and ultimately shamanic practice. Chapter Three relates how he began journeying on his own. The author describes purchasing Awakening to the Spirit World by Sandra Ingeman and Hank Wesselman, reading their instructions on journeying, and using the accompanying CD to journey easily into and out of the spirit world. After several months, he decided to verify his experiences and signed up for a class titled "Introduction to Shamanic Journeying" by Lauren Torres, a certified teacher of shamanic practices. Chapters Four and Five describe the author's success in confirming his own experiences through that training. Paul describes his journeys during four shamanic training courses as well as his own personal journeys during this timeframe. The author uses Chapter Six as an introduction to the process of healing by describing his experiences during three years as a practitioner of chakra healing. This chapter also sets the stage for discussions of soul retrievals and soul retrieval training which are covered in Chapter Seven. Chapter Eight describes four soul retrievals and includes positive post retrieval comments from each of the clients. Chapter Nine discusses the use of drums, rattles, dreams, omens, other forms of divination, and how these tools compliment healing and soul retrievals. Chapter Ten focuses on a discussion of our outmoded definition of reality, the fact that journeying is the inherent right of all human beings, and how journeying will help us discover our individual purpose which in turn will help us implement the destiny of all humanity. My Journeys To The Spirit World, is not a dry, intellectual approach to shamanic journeying. Rather it is an exciting, sometimes emotional retelling of the author's personal view of the journeying process. It is the wonderful culmination of a life long spiritual search.
