The Silent Child by Jeanne Magagna Summary

The Silent Child: Communication without Words describes a way of understanding and communicating with children who are not speaking, but rather using their bodies and somatic symptoms to express states of mind. The author has worked for 45 years trying to find ways of helping these children, varying in age and symptoms. Using infant observation methods of understanding primitive states of mind expressed through gestures of eyes, hands, body posture, she has worked in in-patient or out-patient settings with contributors: a group of psychiatrists, psychologists, family and child psychotherapists, physiotherapists, nurses, therapeutic care workers, teachers, parents' groups and work discussion seminar members in out-patient and in-patient settings. In their chapters, the professionals and a parent show how they use their observation, empathy and countertransference experiences to promote understanding in the silent child and his/her parents and siblings. This book is particularly important for mental health professionals, teachers and parents who are encountering 'a child communicating without words'.

The Silent Child by Laurent Danon-Boileau Summary

towards speech. The author emphasizes that a child's trouble can stem from different causes: there are neurological problems similar to those of aphasia; there are cognitive impairments; and, of course, there are psychological disorders. Professor Danon-Boileau argues that language disorderstoday are too often considered from one particular point of view-sometimes psychological, sometimes neurological. In order to understand the possible causes of, and solutions to, these disorders, it is necessary to take into account the interaction of these two elements. Those who have effectivelyworked with speechless children know all too well that their pathology and behaviour do not necessarily fit into general nosographic descriptive categories. The originality of this book is that it gives a concrete and precise narrative of six individual case studies and tries to draw general conclusions from both a linguistic and a psychoanalytic point of view, thus reflecting the wide-ranging expertise of the author. It will be essential reading forprofessionals within the field of psychoanalysis and speech therapy; academics and students in language acquisition, speech therapy, and developmental psychology; as well as parents who are concerned with their children's language development.

Silent Child by Toni Maguire Summary

Unlike people with carefree previous lives, I packed away my past. There are some memories labelled 'Look at', and others 'Leave well alone'... Emily Smith was held in a prison of fear for ten years. When she was four, her father left and a new man was brought into her life. He loved her, he kept telling her so, but the emotional and physical abuse she suffered at his hands were a daily nightmare. Until one day, after he crept into her bedroom, her life became unbearable. Emily found she was different in another way as her autism became more noticeable and punishments for her 'abnormal' behaviour more severe. Astonishingly, she managed to escape her home of hell, where she was abused right in front of her mother. Emily determinedly gained a university place and emerged triumphant with a new life and family in Ireland, desperate to treat her daughter, so similar to her, to a different life. Heartbreakingly true, Silent Child is a testament to Emily's strength as she sheds light on rampant abuse still happening today. Powerful and shocking, sharing her story means she finally has a voice to say: enough.

« Visage écrasé contre le cuir. Odeur de voiture neuve. Je ne peux pas bouger. J’ai été kidnappée. Je ne peux pas bouger. J’ouvre les yeux. Ça fait mal. Mais j’aperçois mon frère, Nikolai. — Nik ?

The Silent Children by Amna K. Boheim Summary

‘As I studied the photograph more closely, I homed in on the boy’s expression. He looked whitewashed with fear.’ Vienna, 1938: Something’s amiss at the home of young Annabel Albrecht and it’s got nothing to do with the Nazis. First, her favourite maid Eva disappears, then her friend Oskar. What’s worse, her mother is taken away, leaving Annabel to fend for herself. London 2004: Max receives a letter from his dying and estranged mother, Annabel, who requests his help. Following their last argument he has no desire to contact her. But his curiosity is piqued by the black and white photograph she had enclosed: a disturbing image of his mother and forgotten childhood friend, Oskar Edelstein, taken in Vienna, 1938. Stranger still are the words, ‘you knew’, scrawled on its reverse. The photograph and the message, are, his mother writes, part of the reason for her distance towards him. She wants him to find Oskar... The photograph haunts him following his mother’s death – and there’s something about her old house in Vienna that’s not quite right. As much as Max wants to stay away, he can’t, as he uncovers his mother’s long-buried past and the secrets preserved by Annabel’s missing friends. But as Max is to discover, some children can never be completely silenced. Is he haunted by ghosts or by guilt, and will he ever escape? The Silent Children is a gripping tale of tragedy and revenge, a modern-day ghost story that will stay with you long after you turn the final page.

The Silent History by Eli Horowitz,Kevin Moffett,Matthew Derby Summary

A generation of children are born without speech, without comprehension, without language entirely. At first, they are just medical curiosities. But their numbers swell, and soon they grow into an established underclass, occupying squats and communes around the world. To some they are seen as a threat; to others, as a salvation. Some suspect they may have other abilities beyond our understanding. The children cannot tell you their story. Instead we rely on The Silent History, a collection of testimonies from those touched by the phenomenon. Parents, doctors, opportunist inventors, cult leaders, and vigilantes, recall what they have endured and what they have inflicted on others. They will take you from a recognisable present to a real and unsettling future. You will not want to look away.

Heal Yourself--Heal the World by Deborah King Summary

Deborah King, spiritual leader and New York Times bestselling author of Be Your Own Shaman, inspires and teaches her proven method of LifeForce Energy Healing in this definitive and accessible book that will forever change the way you connect to your energy. What’s standing between you and the life you were meant to lead? The answer lies in your energy field and how you manage it. When our energy pathways are blocked by suppressed feelings, pain, and trauma, we weaken both our personal and universal energy fields, hindering our ability to live our best lives. LifeForce Energy has its origins in the living force that Hindus call prana, the Chinese call chi, and the Japanese call qi. This primal force is connected to your spirit as well as to your physical, emotional, and mental self. It is, in fact, the substance of spirit, what Master energy healer Deborah King calls “LifeForce energy.” Now, using the simple techniques and powerful teachings in Heal Yourself—Heal the World, you can finally clear past trauma from your energy field, connect with authentic emotions, and clear, charge, and re-balance your chakras. Within Heal Yourself—Heal the World you will be able to explore the origins and benefits of energy healing as well as learn self-healing practices and techniques, moving you from basic concepts to hands-on learning to, ultimately, whole world healing.
