Ball & Other Funny Stories About Cancer by Brian Lobel Summary

Unexpected, quirky and provocative, BALL & Other Funny Stories About Cancer is a unique collection of performances about illness and the changing body over time. Documenting a trilogy of Brian Lobel’s monologue performances from 2001-2011, this collection challenges the inspirational stories of survivors and martyrs that have come before, infusing the ‘cancer story’ with an urgency and humour which is sometimes inappropriate, often salacious and always, above all else, honest and open. Published together for the first time, this collection of performances goes beyond the chemotherapy to include reflections on politics, sexuality and gender, providing cancer – and cancer narratives – with a much-deserved kick in the ball(s).

Adventures of Wyatt West by W. Todd Lindsay Summary

Wyatt West is a fictional Character in realistic situations. Most of the stories are from memories of my family and friends. Ranch and farm life is a totally different life from that of a kid that lives in a city. So with the Wyatt West series, people can learn what ranch life is like. Many people cannot believe that there is anything to do in the country. They think life would be boring without the city lights, malls, game rooms, parks and many other activities to try to keep youth busy in a city. In the country kids with free time make their own fun. There are horses to ride, and miles of land to explore. Fun can be found with imagination and curiosity. Safety is usually not a big concern because the kids learn from an early age the dangers of certain critters and equipment that can be around a ranch or farm. Country kids learn to be respectful of adults and more self dependent from an early age. It really is not much effort for a young person on a ranch to be responsible for the care and management of a horse. Most kids in the country are expected to help with their part of chores, and work around a ranch or farm. It takes a family to manage a ranch or farm in today's economy.

Hashish Dreaming by Elias Sassoon Summary

A novel that isn't a real novel; a novel that really is the rambling of a disjointed 21st century dude exhibiting cerebral symptoms caused by inhaling the hashish haze overhead. Being stoned to release the inner self; reaching that higher state of consciousness, and then gaining a real understanding, that's what that's what we have. We also have the opportunity to dig deep into the tender bowels of an individual's psyche and unearth the inner dimensions of the idea. Unearthing it all, unearthing the mind's fertile crescent in which action transpires and action inspires to set an action hero into orbit. Who is this action hero? Merely the neurotic who sits alone in a corner thinking thoughts about modern life and exactly where they fit into it. Experimentation with the mind, by letting the mind go, by not trying to contain it, by letting it be honest and forthright, that is what Hashish Dreaming is all about. It's nothing more, and nothing less than that.

Wyrd Sisters - Playtext by Stephen Briggs,Terry Pratchett Summary

Terry Pratchett takes Shakespeare's Macbeth and then turns it up 'till the knob comes off. It's all there - a wicked duke and duchess, the ghost of the murdered king, dim soldiers, strolling players, a land in peril. And who stands between the Kingdom and destruction? Three witches. Granny Weatherwax (intolerant, self-opinionated, powerful), Nanny Ogg (down-to-earth, vulgar) and Magrat Garlick (naïve, fond of occult jewellery and bunnies). Stephen Briggs has been involved in amateur dramatics for over 25 years and he assures us that the play can be staged without needing the budget of Industrial Light and Magic. Not only that, but the cast should still be able to be in the pub by 10 o'clock! Oh, and a world of advice omitted from the play text: LEARN THE WORDS Havelock, Lord Vetinari

Garbage Head by Christopher Willard Summary

Imagine Douglas Coupland writing a Kurt Vonnegut novel in hypertext. The outcome: Garbage Head, a daring postmodern novel written almost entirely in sentence-length paragraphs which examines the promiscuity of telecommunication devices and the vicarious thrills of celebrity culture. The reader surfs through the text gathering points of view and sound bites from disparate locales in real time and, just as in the today's world of endless stimuli, must construct the story from an array of media messages. As technology erases the lines between reality and virtual reality, a boy nicknamed Garbage Head develops the ability to say what those on TV and radio will say before they say it. An appearance on The Fabulous Gigi Fandone Show rockets him to fame, but his troubles begin when he uses his ability to predict the numbers of a multi-million dollar lotto. The FBI deems him to be a national threat and Garbage Head is arrested and taken to a president more consumed with watching reruns and learning street slang than in leading a nation. Garbage Head is the idiot savant through whose eyes we glimpse a world spinning out of control, where belief is found in media and its ubiquitous stars, where technology provides a human life line, and where everyone is searching for a meaning which can only be found within.
